Troop 359 is one of six Scouting America troops in the City of San Marino, California and is part of the Rose Bowl District of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council. Troop 359 utilizes the patrol method and an outdoor program to provide a platform that challenges our scouts to build their self confidence, self reliance and hone their leadership skills. We also maintain an active merit badge program that provides access to a variety of merit badges. Troop 359 also participates in community service opportunities and conservation projects.
Troop 359 Scouts pursue rank advancement at their own pace. Once they complete the requirements for a particular rank they are responsible for requesting their scoutmaster conferences and Board of Review to demonstrate their mastery of required skills and experiences. In 2022, Troop 359 celebrated our 50th scout to have demonstrated the dedication, service and leadership required to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
Troop 359 meets twice a month on Tuesday nights in the San Marino scout house year round and goes camping once a month. For more information, contact us at troop359@bsa359sm.org.
Greetings from Troop 359,
The Scouting experience is a unique opportunity for all to learn and grow. Troop 359’s vision is to develop leaders of character and skill who strive to live by the Scout Oath, Scout Law, and Outdoor Code.
The four key elements of Troop 359 are as follows:
1. The Outdoor Program includes monthly troop activities, such as camping, hiking, backpacking, and other adventure activities (e.g., kayaking, climbing, rafting, skiing/snowboarding). Through these activities we learn and teach respect for the outdoors and develop life skills with a focus on health and safety.
2. Community Service includes volunteer opportunities within our community, school, and neighborhood organizations, as well as nature conservation projects.
3. Leadership Development occurs at all stages of a Scout’s journey. As a scout-led troop, our Scouts learn how to work together, overcome challenges, and build confidence as they develop, plan, and execute activities.
4. Advancement and Recognition are important to create self motivation and build confidence. Senior Scouts and troop instructors (Scouts) encourage and teach younger Scouts life skills and serve as positive role models. Scouts are formally recognized for their achievements and advancements quarterly at formal Court of Honor ceremonies, which are attended by the entire troop and Scout families.
Scouting is a youth-led, youth-run program, but the youth must be trained to be leaders. Adult role models in Scouting provide an ideal learning experience for all youth. Every adult volunteer has something valuable to offer.
The advantages of Scouting are not limited to youth. Adults also develop leadership and physical skills with every training experience. Volunteers learn too. In fact, volunteers believe their time invested with BSA Scouts helps them be:
better citizens
better employees
better parents
more patient and tolerant of others
better managers
more open to new ideas and opinions
We need adult volunteers to provide the direction, coaching, and training that empowers today’s youth with the skills they will need to lead into the future.
We welcome the opportunity for you to share in the Scouting experience with us. Please contact us to learn more and begin your Scouting journey with Troop 359.
Yours in Scouting,
Brian E. Miller
T359 Scoutmaster
Welcome to Troop 359! My name is Ian Ycasas and I am the Senior Patrol Leader for this term.
Our troop strives for excellence in rank advancement and merit badges, involvement in numerous volunteer opportunities, and engagement in the countless great experiences in the outdoors, from adventurous activities such as kayaking, climbing, snowboarding, or hiking to fun-filled camping and backpacking trips as scouts learn how to manage their peers and themselves in the outdoors.
Troop 359 is a scout-led unit, meaning our scouts collaborate to plan and execute activities. Here, scouts will develop confidence in leadership as they persevere through any challenges. Many scouts in this troop strive for the Eagle Rank, the highest attainable scouting rank recognized across the nation.
With five years being a scout in Troop 359, I can ascertain that scouting has attributed to my growth as leader and citizen and has exposed me to vastly different learning experiences, whether they derive from outdoor activities or regular troop meetings. We welcome you to share that scouting experience with us and feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you and welcome to Troop 359!
